Background Checks

You are here: Home / Background Checks

The Marion County Board of Developmental Disabilities offers background checks to the community. Here are the details about this service.

What hours are available for background checks?

Background checks can be completed at any time between 8:00 am and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday as long as a staff member is available to assist. Those needing a background check completed may want to call our agency at (740) 387-1035 to make sure that there is someone available to complete the background check. MCBDD only has a select few employees to administer background checks so calling ahead may save you time and frustration.

What does it cost?

A BCI (Bureau of Criminal Identification and Information) background check can be completed for those who have lived in Ohio for the last 5 years or longer. The BCI background check is $32.  If the person completing the background check has lived in Ohio for less than 5 years, an FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigations) background check will need to be completed. The FBI background check costs $35.  Some companies may require both to be completed.  If that is the case, then the cost would be $67 for both.  When paying for these background checks, please keep in mind that we are only able to accept exact cash and cannot accept checks or credit/debit cards.

What do people need to bring with them?

To have a background check completed, the person will need to bring a valid driver’s license or state-issued photo ID, as well as payment for the background check (if applicable), and a completed background check request form.  If your agency did not provide you with a form, MCBDD has blank forms that can be completed immediately prior to the background check.

How do they get results?

Companies will request to have the results of the background check mailed directly to them.  If the person having the background check is an independent provider, then the background check can be mailed directly to them. Results typically take around 10 days to get mailed to the respective company or provider, but there have been times where the background checks have taken longer, for various reasons.
