There was a time when individuals with disabilities were viewed as unable to contribute to society in any way.
Times have changed in a big way.
Over the past four decades, nearly 1,000 Marion Countians have given back to the community through Marion County DD’s Community Employment Services program.
Marion County DD’s Community Employment Services department was formed in 1983 as part of a grant from the Rehabilitation Services Commission. Since its inception, Community Employment has placed 947 individuals with disabilities into jobs in the Marion area.
The program focuses on placing individuals with disabilities into jobs in the community. Currently, there are about 50 individuals who receive services from Marion County DD working throughout the county. The jobs include factory work, restaurant employees, janitorial positions, non-profits and retail.
We are fortunate to have a community where employers have embraced individuals with disabilities. Individuals with disabilities want good jobs and the benefits they provide. A good job gives them spending money, confidence, and an opportunity to give something back to the community.
